ABOUT THE EDUCATION & TRAINING TEAM: The Education and Training team at CMHA NS is a tightly-knit team dedicated to providing all Nova Scotians with accessible and relevant wellness programs.  They support a broad catalogue of programs and experiences, including THRIVE Learning Centre for Mental Wellness and Wellbeing, Resilient Minds, ASIST, Changing Minds and Mental Health in the Workplace. They are also responsible for the design and delivery of custom programming at organizations across the province.

ABOUT THE CAST PROGRAM: Within the education department, the Communities Addressing Suicide Together (CAST) program, provides evidence-based suicide prevention training, education and resources to Nova Scotia communities. The CAST Program works with Nova Scotians to build and strengthen their capacity to address suicide at the community level. We recognise that everyone has the potential to make a difference and can contribute to a community that is safer from suicide.

Programs and services within CAST include suicide prevention/intervention/postvention awareness, education & training, resource sharing and program evaluation.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting directly to the Provincial Lead: Education & Training, the CAST Coordinator will build and nurture relationships, so as to develop and enhance local capacity to address suicide across the province.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The key responsibilities includes but is not limited to the following:

·       Design, develop and facilitate community programs.

·       Co-develop project proposals and grant applications.

·       Prepare and track budget while predicting resources needed.

·       Publicly advocate and educate for suicide prevention and life promotion

·       Measure and evaluate program success and identify areas for improvement.

·       Complete and maintain core certifications for the position as required. E.g., safeTALK, ASIST, Team UP

·       Researching and updating resources for the CAST hub

·       Build relations with other organisations focused on suicide prevention

·       Other duties as assigned in alignment with the position role and accountability.

 

LOCATION: Virtual, home-based office environment.

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position, working generally from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday (37.5 hours/week). This position requires a combination of working in a home office environment and in community, with our community partners. We offer a flexible work environment and a workplace culture committed to personal wellbeing and psychological safety.

A valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required. Reimbursement will be paid as per the Expense Policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS: As outlined in the Working from Home policy, the employer will provide basic equipment necessary for a home office.  The employee will be required to have a suitable designated workspace and reliable high-speed internet. A cell phone will be provided.

COMPENSATION:  Commensurate with experience. Range: $50,000-$55,000 (fair market value within the sector)

QUALIFICATIONS:

·       Must have experience with suicide prevention work.

·       Experience related to community mental health and wellness.

·       Experience in group facilitation.

·       Experience developing educational content.

·       Experience working with NGOs, community-based organizations, interest groups and government.

·       Relevant experience working/volunteering with equity seeking communities

·       Familiarity with the mental health system in Nova Scotia. Lived experience with mental illness is considered an asset.

·       Current Certified ASIST trainer.

·       A clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check are also required.

·       Post Secondary Education – Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.

·       Strong Communicator – Strong interpersonal and communication skills (virtual, in person, print)

·       Active Listening – Trauma informed lens, non-pathologizing, paraphrasing skills, non-judgemental, reflective questioning skills, empathy, patience

·       Creative Thinker – Ability to think outside the box.

·       Program Evaluator – Appreciation and knowledge of program evaluation principles and processes

·       Additional competencies – Attention to detail, concrete organization skills, flexibility, initiative self-management, ability to adapt to work from home environment.

·       Additional skills – Active Nova Scotia Driver’s License and willingness to travel as required, proficiency in English – both speaking and writing, proficiency using Microsoft applications, and virtual delivery platforms, basic research skills.

·       Proficient with Microsoft Office, and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
