We are looking for a skilled professional to guide communications and content strategy,
support public engagement campaigns, and amplify our work across digital and traditional media channels. The ideal candidate is creative, adaptable, and confident in managing multiple projects, with strong writing, editing, and design capabilities.

FORSEC is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to developing a skilled and professional workforce for Nova Scotia’s forest industry. We collaborate with partners to identify and solve labour challenges. Our strategic priorities are attraction and retention, skill development, and human resource planning. POSITION OVERVIEW
As Communications Specialist, you will lead FORSEC’s external communications and marketing. You will promote our programs, employers support and HR-related information, career opportunities, and strengthen the public’s understanding of Nova Scotia’s forestry sector. You will manage digital platforms and create clear, engaging content for social media, newsletters, websites, speeches, press releases, and marketing materials like brochures, reports, and event assets. You will support brand visibility and build relationships with youth, employers, partners, and communities across the province.

This is your opportunity to share the story of forestry in Nova Scotia. You will help build trust in the people behind sustainable forestry practices, strengthen sector visibility, and show how forestry careers contribute to communities and economic growth for Nova Scotia.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create, edit, and publish written and visual content including newsletters, web copy, social media posts, print assets, and campaign materials.
• Monitor engagement across social media platforms and respond to comments or questions as needed with timely and consistent messaging.
• Design and maintain brand materials (e.g. templates, presentations, reports, visual assets) using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Support campaign development and marketing initiatives to promote workforce development, events, and public engagement efforts.
• Collaborate with internal teams to align messaging across projects, events, and stakeholder communications, and ensure consistency across multiple communication platforms.
• Track and report on communication metrics to evaluate reach, engagement, and impact.
• Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all communications materials and practices.
• Collaborate with team members and external partners to align communications with
broader organizational initiatives and workforce development strategies.
• Commit to promoting forestry’s role in environmental stewardship, sustainability, and
economic growth in Nova Scotia.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in a communications or public engagement role preferred.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
• Experience managing digital platforms (e.g. WordPress, social media, newsletters) and content management systems.
• Proficiency in Canva, Adobe InDesign, or Illustrator to create compelling visual content.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proven skill in writing clear, accessible content, engaging target audiences, and aligning messaging with organizational brand and tone.
• Experience in photography or videography is an asset.
• Knowledge of Nova Scotia’s forestry sector, workforce issues, or rural industries is
considered an asset.

This is a full-time hybrid position. Salary for this position begins at $60,000 per year and may be adjusted based on experience. The successful candidate must be based in Nova Scotia and will be required to attend in-office meetings in Truro Heights approximately once per month. This role requires occasional travel across Nova Scotia to industry events and partner meetings.
