Job Posting – Executive Director
Start Date: Mid – June, 2023 (flexible)

Type: Full-time, One year contract (inclusive of 3 – month probation, renewed annually pending funding

Salary: $60,000 – $70,000 Annual commensurate with experience (inclusive of 4% vacation pay)

Hours of Work: 37.5 hrs/week. Flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends based on activity requirements.

Reports to: Board of Directors

Location: Remote, potentially hybrid in future

Established in 2012, the Immigrant Migrant Women’s Association of Halifax (IMWAH) is a culturally diverse and feminist non-profit organization in Nova Scotia committed to the holistic integration of immigrant, migrant women and girls in the province.

 

About this Opportunity

IMWAH is recruiting an Executive Director to support the advancement of its strategic mandate. Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for implementing IMWAH’s Strategic Plan.

 

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for maintaining regular communication with and reporting all operational matters to the Board. The ED works closely with the elected Board Chair as the main point of contact between the ED and the Board of Directors. When necessary, the Board Chair may call upon the Executive Committee as a ‘sounding board’ for the Executive Director.  The ED oversees the general management of the organization and implementation of programs and services within the limits established by the Board.

Key Areas of Responsibility

1. Day-to-Day Operations (25%)

2. Funder and Stakeholder Engagement (65%)

3. Other (10%)

 

Our next Executive Director will be a dynamic self-starter, who has the following qualifications and attributes:

·        Is commited to our values and mission as an independent, feminist, community-based organization.

·        Has a thorough understanding of immigrant/migrant women context, including barriers, challenges and enablers.

·        Has a university degree in a related field, or can demonstrate an equivalency in relevant education and experience.

·        Has demonstrated excellence in organizational management with the ability to set and achieve strategic goals.

·        Strong leadership skills that support a positive and productive culture and an environment where employees and volunteers feel motivated, empowered, and are inspired.

·        Has a solid understanding of, and experience with financial management and budgeting in a complex, multi-revenue stream environment.

·        Is a highly collaborative consensus builder with the ability to delegate, inspire and manage.

·        Has the ability to build and maintain strong trusting relationships among staff and the individuals and communities we work with.

·        Has experience in a not-for-profit environment.

·        Demonstrates strong report writing and research skills.

·        Has excellent inter-personal, communication, and networking skills.

·        Proven ability to lead, work independently, take initiative, and to be accountable to multi-stakeholders.

Assets

·        Wide ranging community relations experience with the innate ability to build authentic    relationships and engage a variety of stakeholders including partners, donors, and the community.

·        Experience leading volunteers.

·        Experience working with volunteer boards.
