Millbrook First Nation is a Mi’kmaq community located within the town of Truro, positioned in the hub of Nova Scotia. Millbrook First Nation also has reserve land in Beaver Dam, Sheet Harbour, Dartmouth, and Cole Harbour, along with other privately owned lands near Truro and Sheet Harbour.
Using its geographic location, Millbrook First Nation has thrived in numerous economic development endeavours within the past decade. Economic development projects include but are not limited to the construction of the Truro, Millbrook Power Centre, residential apartment buildings and a gaming centre located in Cole Harbour, and a wharf in Sheet Harbour.

This Moment, This Position
The Home Care Worker will support elderly and in-need individuals within the Millbrook Band and Community Members, providing personal care and home management support services. They will play a critical role in enhancing the quality of life for clients by providing compassionate and personalized care within the comfort of their homes. This position requires a dedicated individual who prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of clients, fostering a nurturing and respectful environment that promotes dignity and independence. Home Care Workers deliver essential and social support tailored to each client’s unique needs.
Home Care Workers collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, home care coordinators, and family members to develop and implement care plans that address physical, emotional, and social requirements. They monitor clients’ conditions, report changes promptly, and offer invaluable assistance in maintaining clients; health, safety, and comfort. By fostering strong relationships built on trust and empathy, the Home Care Worker will play a vital part in enabling clients to lead fulfilling and independent lives while receiving high-quality care.
How You Would Contribute
Client Care and Support:
- Provide necessary continuing care for assigned clients
- Assist with personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing and hygiene needs
- Support clients with mobility and physical activities, including light exercises
Assist with daily living activities to promote client independence
Household and Meal Assistance:
- Perform light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry and organizing
- Prepare nutritious meals based on needs assessments and dietary restrictions
Medical and Treatment Assistance:
- Assist with treatment protocols as directed by the home care nurse
- Provide medication reminders and assistance if needed
- Transport clients to medical appointments, ensuring their safety and comfort
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client care activities
- Report incidents and communicate changes in the client’s condition to the home care coordinator
Education and Qualifications
- Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Certification
- Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, WHMIS and Food Handlers Course
- Knowledge of cultural practices and traditions relevant to client care
- Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality results
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills with effective time management and boundary-setting capabilities
- Proficient in active listening and setting appropriate boundaries to support client interactions
- Demonstrated reliability and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail, including maintaining accurate daily notes and client logs for record-keeping and reporting
- Commitment to upholding confidentiality and maintaining client privacy
- Ability to safely lift 35 lbs (16 kg) and perform physical tasks related to caregiving
- Clear Background Checks including Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening within the past 12 months, and Child Abuse Registry Check
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation and proper insurance for transporting clients

The Package
Salary: $35,000
Hours: The successful candidate will be required to work from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Mon- Thur, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday (Occasionally outside of these hours if the need arises).
Benefits & Pension: Health & Dental Benefits, Pension, Vacation and Holiday closure in December
Location: Millbrook, Nova Scotia
Travel: As needed throughout Nova Scotia
