SUMMARY

The Community Wellness Program Manager will create and run community wellness programs for LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers through RRANS, which includes group programming, community-building activities, and individual peer support.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

This role consists of the following duties and responsibilities:

Program Delivery  (60%)

  • Plan and host weekly or bi-weekly hangouts for the RRANS community.
  • Create, deliver, record, and distribute a series of wellness workshops for the LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers community, aimed at increasing their knowledge about different aspects of mental and physical health and wellness.
  • Co-facilitate a series of pottery workshops that engage LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers through art and community building.
  • Plan and execute field trips to connect LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers with other local vulnerable communities.
  • Connect with community-based organizations in Nova Scotia to develop and deliver shared programming to connect LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers with targeted local communities in Nova Scotia.
  • Engage in knowledge transfer activities to pass along the knowledge, experience and skills for working with LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers developed through this project, to educate and inform local stakeholders.

Settlement Support (20%)

  • Develop a toolkit of mental health interventions and tools that can be used by LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers.
  • Work 1-on-1 with LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers to provide peer support, goal setting, and resources and referrals to those experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Provide training to RRANS staff members on mental health and wellness, as it relates to LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers resettlement.

Administrative Tasks (20%)

  • Participate in regular team meetings, and meetings with supervisor to check on progress of projects.
  • Develop and maintain a work plan for organizational goals.
  • Attend LGBTQI+ refugees and 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers training sessions and other training opportunities as needed.
  • Collection of data, surveys, and completion of reports, as needed for the program delivery.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
