Parenting Journey Home Visitor
Full-Time, Parental Leave Cover Position (one year)

The Opportunity
We are looking for a Parenting Journey Home Visitor to join our team on a temporary basis while our current home visitor is on parental leave. The Parenting Journey Home Visitor works with parents & caregivers of children up to age 18, who want additional support to meet their parenting goals. Often the family will also be working with the Department of Community Services Child & Family Wellbeing branch, and the Parenting Journey Home Visitor is an independent support person for the parents as they navigate a challenging time. This position is well suited to someone who understands the complexities of being a parent, believes all parents want the best for their children, and is an excellent listener.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings (once or twice per quarter) and weekends (once or twice per year) as required.
Reporting structure: The Parenting Journey Home Visitor will report to the Home Visiting Coordinator.
The Parenting Journey Home Visitor will:
• Meet parents and caregivers in their home, at The North Grove, or an agreed upon
alternate location like a playground
• Provide support for families experiencing complex social, emotional, and familial
challenges
• Work collaboratively with families to build trusting relationships, identify strengths,
resources, and priorities
• Use a strengths-based, harm reduction approach
• With support, connect families with resources and help them navigate systems
• Support other areas of program delivery at The North Grove as required

• Demonstrated sensitivity, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude, as well as
initiative, self-direction and teamwork
• An understanding of and appreciation for how the determinants of health impact families in the community
• Post-secondary diploma or degree in a Social Service-related major or equivalent experience
• Education in Early Childhood Development, Family Studies, Human Services, Psychology, and/or Sociology
• Experience in parenting, and/or working/volunteering with families
• Knowledge of a range of community resources relevant to families and the ability to connect families with these resources
• Ability and skills necessary to communicate respectfully with families from diverse
backgrounds and identities
• Good oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to establish and maintain personal/program boundaries, while providing supportive services
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification
• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and ownership of a reliable, insured vehicle is required
• Satisfactory criminal record, vulnerable sector and child abuse registry checks required upon offer
What We Offer
The North Grove is a caring and high-energy work environment. Our close-knit team is made up of 30 staff and over 160 community volunteers. Staff wellbeing is prioritized, and we provide training opportunities, employer-paid medical/dental benefits, RRSP after probation, 4 weeks of paid vacation, paid sick time and personal days. This position is based in Dartmouth, however there is the opportunity to do some work from home.
Salary range: $45,000-$50,000* annually, with vacation, benefits, and pension program.
*Note that this hiring range is based on a comprehensive compensation policy, available upon request.
The Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a short telephone interview. Successful candidates will be invited to a follow up in person interview at The North Grove, and a finalist interview if necessary.
