The YMCA of Southwest Nova Scotia is dedicated to building healthy communities where
everyone belongs and has the opportunity to thrive. Through programs that support health
and wellness, child and youth development, and community connection, we serve
thousands of individuals and families across rural Southwest Nova Scotia each year.
We are currently seeking volunteer candidates to fill three (3) positions, each with a
three-year term.
The YMCA of Southwest Nova Scotia is deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion,

board members to represent the communities we aim to serve. Candidates will be invited to
voluntarily self-identify as part of our commitment to inclusive and equitable recruitment

As such, we are intentionally seeking to recruit nominees who are members of communities
that are currently underrepresented on YMCA Boards across Canada:
● African Nova Scotian, Black, Indigenous, or members of other racialized
communities
● Members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
● Persons with disabilities
We are currently seeking new Board members who bring their lived experience,
professional expertise, and a commitment to community impact. While all qualified
candidates are encouraged to apply, priority consideration will be given to individuals with
experience in one or more of the following areas:
● Financial Expertise / CPA – Chartered Professional Accountants or senior
financial leaders with experience in financial oversight, audit, risk management,
and not-for-profit or charitable finance
● Human Resources – Experience in HR leadership, executive compensation,
performance management, succession planning, and organizational culture
● Legal – Legal training or significant experience working with legal and regulatory
frameworks
● Fund Development / Philanthropy – Experience in fundraising, donor relations,
or community investment
● Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Anti-Oppression (AO) –
Knowledge of, and experience implementing, anti-racist, anti-colonial; Truth and
Reconciliation, 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion or disability justice and accessibility
initiatives in an organization; demonstrated skills organizing and leading change in
underrepresented communities
Experience in rural or community-based organizations, not-for-profits, or volunteer
governance is a strong asset.
