IONS is situated in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaw people. Unceded means that the Mi’kmaq have never relinquished, sold, traded, or transferred ownership of their land to European settler colonies, yet land was taken over without their consent through various processes of settler colonialism. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, which the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik people first signed with the British Crown in 1726. These Treaties did not involve the surrendering of rights to the lands and resources they had traditionally used and occupied. We are all Treaty People.

We further acknowledge that Nova Scotia is the birthplace of Black culture and heritage in Canada. People of African descent have shared these lands for over 400 years, and over 50 strong and resourceful African Nova Scotian communities exist here today.

    The Opportunity: 

    We are looking for an Interim Enhanced Home Visitor to join our team on a temporary basis to cover a period of staff leave.  

    The Enhanced Home Visitor delivers the Enhanced Home Visiting Program in partnership with Nova Scotia Public Health. The role supports families from the prenatal period through to age three, using a structured, evidence-informed home visiting curriculum designed to promote healthy child development, positive parenting practices, and family wellbeing. 

    Enhanced Home Visitors are employees of The North Grove and use the organization as their home base while travelling throughout the community to visit families in their homes and other agreed-upon locations. The role is a part of an interdisciplinary partnership with the Public Health Early Years Team and requires close collaboration with Public Health professionals to ensure program quality, case management, and adherence to provincial standards and protocols.  

    The role requires strong relationship-building skills, professional boundaries, the ability to work independently in the community, and a commitment to supporting families during the critical early stages of parenting and child development. 

    Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings (once or twice per quarter) and weekends (once or twice per year) as required. 

    Length of Term: We are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible. This term position will run to March 31st, 2027, with possibility of renewal. 

    Reporting structure: The Interim Enhanced Home Visitor will report to the Home Visiting Coordinator. 

    The Interim Enhanced Home Visitor will: 

    • Meet parents and caregivers in their home, at The North Grove, or an agreed upon alternate location like a playground or coffee shop 
    • Work closely with Public Health Early Years Coordinators and Public Health Nurses to support coordinated service delivery 
    • Deliver the Enhanced Home Visiting Program using the prescribed Growing Great Kids (GGK) curriculum and other approved training tools 
    • Work collaboratively with families to identify parenting goals, strengths, resources, and priorities. 
    • Use strengths-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches in all interactions 
    • Support caregivers to build social support networks and connect with community resources 
    • Maintain accurate notes and program documentation and participate in evaluation 
    • Work independently in the community while maintaining strong communication with the team 
    • Support other areas of program delivery at The North Grove as required 

    Eligibility: 

    To be eligible for this position, you must have: 

    • Minimum two-year post-secondary education in human services, early childhood education, social sciences, or a related discipline, as required by Public Health 
    • A valid Nova Scotia Drivers’ License and ownership of a reliable, insured vehicle (min $2 million insurance) 
    • A satisfactory criminal record, vulnerable sector and child abuse registry check, to be completed at time of offer

    • High level of initiative and self-direction, with the ability to work alone in the community while maintaining strong connections with the team 
    • Familiarity with the diverse neighbourhoods within the broader Dartmouth community, living and/or working in, is considered an asset

     Salary hiring range: $46,350 – 51,500 annually* 

    *Compensation will be determined based on candidate skills, experience, and internal equity
