Community Impact Sector Day of Recognition 2023

May 12, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for the Community Impact Sector Day of Recognition to celebrate your work with a full day of activities, performances, and awards!

Below the Surface: Celebrating the Depth of Impact

What if the Community Impact (Nonprofit) Sector didn’t exist? Programs and services are just the tip of the iceberg. The sector’s role includes trust-building and strengthening social ties, important advocacy efforts, therapeutic and wellness supports through arts and recreation, and giving people the connections and experiences to be able to tap into their whole selves.

The sector has long been an incubator for generating ideas for a better Nova Scotia – one that centres relationships, creativity, community, and equity. Innovation comes from a place of trust and knowing what’s needed for those experiencing injustices.

Impact Organizations of Nova Scotia (IONS) and United Way Halifax, with support from the Province of Nova Scotia are pleased to present the Community Impact Sector Day of Recognition. This year’s theme, “Below the Surface: Celebrating the Depth of Impact” recognizes the influence of our work which reaches every corner of Nova Scotia. Our goal is to surface the essential role that impact organizations play in innovating this province, pushing for change, and improving collective quality of life.

Part of shedding light on this depth of impact includes imagining what it would look like if these organizations and groups were absent in society. What would happen?

On Friday May 12th, we’ll be celebrating you and your work with a full day of activities, performances, and awards. The morning’s capacity building workshops will focus on how to amplify your stories of impact and how to leverage media to influence change. The afternoon will be hosted by Portia Clark of CBC Information Morning and will feature live art performances and 20 Invisible Champion Awards, presented by the Bhayana Family Foundation. The event will be hosted in person at the Cedar Event Centre in Halifax and livestreamed across the province. Please join us in recognizing the worth of the Community Impact Sector’s work.

We are proud to recognize our supportive sponsors, the Bhayana Family Foundation, and the Province of Nova Scotia.

Engaging those in community work from across the province is an important part of celebrating the sector’s collective work. To increase accessibility in attending the in-person event, we’re happy to offer a number of $150 travel stipends to attendees outside of the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). Stipends will prioritize members of equity-deserving communities living in rural areas. Please fill out the application here to be considered for a stipend: Stipend Application

For those who are able and would like to contribute, Pay it Forward tickets are available to support the travel stipend for members of equity-deserving communities. Pay it Forward tickets are by donation, and not mandatory in attending the event. To make a donation of any amount, please select the Pay it Forward ticket option in registration. Thank you!

Please note, we are encouraging a maximum of up to 5 attendees per organization to help ensure the event can be shared by a wide variety organizations from across the sector and province. If there are any concerns related to this, please reach out to hello@ions.ca
