Farm Assistant

Full-time, Term Position, Canada Summer Jobs

The Opportunity

We are looking for a farm assistant to join our team. The farm assistant will help with all aspects of the community farm, affordable market, and other food programming, including outdoor children’s programs, volunteer work groups, and produce packaging and distribution. Someone who enjoys variety in their days and working outside, who is great at communicating with diverse groups, and who can teach themselves new things would excel at this position.

Hours: 35 hours per week Monday to Friday, starting June 24 for 8 weeks

Reporting structure: The Farm Assistant will report to the Community Farm Coordinator and the Child Development Coordinator.

The Farm Assistant will:

·         Complete farm tasks such as harvesting, bagging, planting, weeding, etc.

·         Help to run farm programs such as volunteer groups, outdoor camps for young children and youth, and farm workshops

·         Help with minor repairs and small building projects

·         Help with the affordable market

·         Help with other food programming as needed

·         Excellent communication skills

·         Flexibility and ability to problem solve on the fly

·         Enthusiasm for working with community members of all ages and backgrounds

·         Experience working with children and/or youth

·         Enthusiasm for spending most of your work time outside, in lots of different weather

·         Ability to work independently

·         Ability to comfortably lift 20lbs and stand for long periods of time

·         Experience with gardening is an asset, but not essential

 

This is a Canada Summer Jobs position, which means the candidate must:

·         be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

·         be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and

·         have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

What We Offer
The North Grove is a caring and high-energy work environment. Our close-knit team is made up of 30 staff and over 160 community volunteers. This position is based in Dartmouth.

Salary range: $16.50 – $18.00 per hour and 4% vacation
